1. Who are you?

I’m Mary Jo Weilnau. I grew up in Waterville, Ohio, near Toledo and I have lived in the Milan area for nearly 50 years. I have two grown children and no grandchildren. I am a retired elementary teacher who loves reading, baking, history, and Ohio State Buckeyes.

2. What is your favorite animal and why?  What pets did you have while you were growing up? Favorite one?

I love cats and have always had them in my life. My favorite one I have cared for was called Bunny.

3. What do you contribute to the Edison Birthplace? Do you enjoy working at the Birthplace and what do you look forward too?

My job at the Edison birthplace is a tour guide. I take visitors into the Edison home and do my best to make the inventor and his family come alive for them. I enjoy meeting visitors from all over the world, we never know who will come to visit each day. I am especially grateful to work with a wonderful team of people who really care about maintaining the Edison legacy.

4. If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would you go and why?

I would like to return to Germany and take a river cruise to visit the Christmas markets!

5. What is your favorite invention that Thomas Edison created?

My favorite Edison invention is the phonograph; it truly changed the world.

6. What is your favorite thing to do in your free time?

My favorite leisure activity would have to be reading.

7. What is your favorite quote from Thomas Edison?

My favorite Edison quotation: “All things come to those who hustle while they wait.”
