Don Gfell Education Center

The Don Gfell Education Center is an exciting new addition to the Thomas Edison Birthplace Museum in Milan, Ohio. Honoring Donald Gfell, a distinguished community leader and dedicated board member of the museum, this center seeks to inspire community enthusiasm for the remarkable history of the museum and the life of Thomas Edison.

Thanks to generous grants and donations, the center offers a variety

of exhibits, including a phonograph that Thomas Edison specifically

created for American soldiers. The center proudly opened its doors

to the public in September 2024.

Donald Gfell, born on January 9, 1942, in Monroeville, OH, was a passionate advocate for education. His enthusiasm for learning and admiration for Thomas Edison inspired the creation of this center, which proudly reflects his dedication.

The Don Gfell Education Center, celebrating the enduring legacy of Thomas Edison and the vision of Don Gfell, came to life with the help of a $50,000 grant. It showcases a remarkable collection of items related to Thomas Edison, including a phonograph crafted specifically for American soldiers. The center serves as an educational platform, offering valuable insights into Edison's life and work.

Don Gfell, a long-time resident of Milan and a Milan High School graduate in 1960, earned his Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Bowling Green State University. His unwavering commitment to education and the legacy of Thomas Edison fueled the establishment of this center.

The center's opening is a remarkable step in advancing the museum's mission to educate the public about Edison's genius and his incredible contributions to the world. It embodies a partnership designed to empower innovation and bring history to life.

Access to the Don Gfell Education Center is included in all guided tours, offering visitors an enriching experience with interactive exhibits and comprehensive insights into the site's history, ecology, and cultural significance.
